Chhattisgarh dry day: On the auspicious occasion of the consecration of Shri Ram Lalla at the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya which is to be held over a span of seven days starting from January 16 to January 22, 2024, the Chhattisgarh government declared a 'dry day' on January 22. 

The decision has been taken by the Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai that the state will observe a 'dry day' on January 22. Meanwhile, the Excise Department also issued instructions on Wednesday to ensure the implementation of the aforementioned announcement.


The announcement reads, "The people of Chhattisgarh are enthusiastically looking forward to this mega event, as Chhattisgarh is the maternal birthplace of Lord Shri Ram. In consideration of the zeal and fervour of the people, this auspicious day will be declared a dry day in Chhattisgarh."

As per the orders, all the the country liquor and foreign liquor retail shops, restaurant bars, hotel bars, and clubs located in Chhattisgarh will be closed on January 22 and the directive measures has been issued to authorities to make sure that no liquor shop, hotel, restaurant, club or any other establishment or person sells or serves liquor on "Dry Day."

Instructions have also been given to strictly ban personal storage of liquor and storage of liquor on unlicensed premises during the said period and take action to confiscate them. An investigation team has also been constituted to keep a check on the suspicious locations and vehicles to prevent the illegal storage of liquor.

Notably, the consecration ceremony of Lord Ram Lalla at the Ram Janmobhoomi Mandir in Ayodhya will be held over a span of seven days starting from January 16 to January 22, 2024. 

The Sri Ram Janambhoomi Trust plans to accommodate 10,000-15,000 individuals, while local authorities are preparing for heightened security measures and logistical arrangements during the ceremony.
