No Issues With Fuel Control Switches On Boeing 787 Planes, say Air India officials
PTC News Desk: The Air India has completed precautionary inspections of the locking mechanism of fuel control switches (FCS) across all the Boeing 787 aircrafts and reported no faults, an airline official said on Wednesday.
The inspection follows a directive issued by the aviation regulator DGCA earlier this week that directed all the airlines operating Boeing 787 and 737 aircraft to carry out a rigorous scrutiny of the fuel switch locking systems.
The order followed the release of a preliminary report by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) into last month's Air India plane crash that killed 260 people.
The AAIB report into the crash of a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner in Ahmedabad had said the fuel cutoff switches for both engines were moved to the cutoff position, one after another within a 1-second interval, at an altitude just moments after liftoff.
"In the cockpit voice recording, one of the pilots is heard asking the other why did he cut off? The other pilot responded that he did not do so," the report stated.
"All our Boeing 787-8 aircraft have undergone throttle control module (TCM) replacement as per the Boeing maintenance schedule. The FCS is part of this module," an Air India official said.
