One soldier martyred, two injured in IED explosion Chhattisgarh's Bijapur
PTC News Desk: One soldier of the Chhattisgarh Police's District Reserve Guard (DRG) martyred and two others injured in a massive IED explosion planted by Maoists in Bijapur district.
The explosion happened on Monday morning in the Indravati National Park region when a team of DRG - a unit of the state police - was out on an anti-Maoist operation, cited a senior official.
DRG Jawan Dinesh Nag was killed in the blast, the official added.
The injured personnel were provided with preliminary medical assistance and evacuation is underway, the official added.
The anti-maoist operation is being carried out as part of Union Home Minister's pledge to make India Maoism free by 2026. He has said that Maoism has blocked the development of several regions of the country for years.
Over the past few months, several Maoists with significant bounty have either been neutralised or surrendered as the central government continues its fierce crackdown on them.
Earlier, a senior maoist leader, Sodhi Kanna carrying a bounty of Rs 8 lakh was killed in an encounter with security forces in the Bijapur district in July.
