Operation Sindoor: Detailed list of targeted terror camps in Pakistan
PTC Web Desk: In the early hours of May 7, at 1:44 am IST, the Indian Armed Forces launched "Operation Sindoor," a coordinated military operation targeting nine terrorist infrastructures across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). This decisive action was in retaliation to the Pahalgam Terror Attack on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians, predominantly tourists. The operation aimed to neutralise key terrorist hubs associated with groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and Hizbul Mujahideen. India emphasised that the strikes were precise, avoiding Pakistani military facilities, and were executed with considerable restraint.
Targeted Terrorist Facilities
Markaz Subhan Allah, Bahawalpur (JeM Headquarters)
Operational since 2015, this 3-acre complex serves as the main training and indoctrination centre for JeM. It houses the residences of JeM Chief Maulana Masood Azhar and other senior leaders. The facility has been linked to major terror plots, including the 2019 Pulwama attack.
Markaz Taiba, Muridke (LeT's Primary Training Centre)
Established in 2000, Markaz Taiba is LeT's principal training facility, enrolling approximately 1,000 students annually. It offers arms training and religious indoctrination. Notably, Osama Bin Laden contributed Rs 10 million for its mosque and guest house construction. The centre has been instrumental in training operatives involved in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.
Located near the International Border in Samba Sector, this facility operates from a Primary Health Centre. It serves as a launchpad for JeM infiltrations into Jammu & Kashmir, facilitating tunnel digging and drone-based arms smuggling.
Mehmoona Joya Facility, Sialkot
Situated within the Bhutta Kotli Government Basic Health Unit, this Hizbul Mujahideen facility trains cadres for infiltration into Jammu region. Commanded by Mohd. Irfan Khan, it has been linked to several attacks in Jammu city.
Markaz Ahle Hadith, Barnala, Bhimber
This LeT centre in PoJK is pivotal for infiltrations into the Poonch–Rajouri–Reasi sector. Accommodating 100–150 cadres, it functions as a staging ground for terrorist activities.
Markaz Abbas, Kotli
An essential JeM facility, it is headed by Hafiz Abdul Shakoor, a close associate of JeM's top commander. The centre is involved in planning and executing attacks in Jammu & Kashmir.
Maskar Raheel Shahid, Kotli
One of the oldest Hizbul Mujahideen facilities, it specialises in arms training, sniping, and survival tactics for operations in hilly terrains.
Shawai Nallah Camp, Muzaffarabad
Also known as Bait-ul-Mujahideen, this LeT camp has been operational since the early 2000s. It played a role in training the 26/11 Mumbai attackers and continues to serve as a recruitment and training hub.
Markaz Syedna Bilal, Muzaffarabad
Serving as a transit camp for JeM terrorists, this facility is overseen by Mufti Asghar Khan Kashmiri. It also provides training with assistance from Pakistan's Special Service Group (SSG).
