Over 50 Delhi schools get bomb threat emails from ‘Terrorisers 111 Group’; police on alert

PTC Web Desk: Panic gripped the national capital on Wednesday after more than 50 schools received threatening emails claiming that high-yield C4 explosives had been planted inside their premises. The messages, allegedly sent by a group calling itself Terrorisers 111, warned of coordinated blasts if their ransom demands were not met.

According to ANI, the emails stated that C4 bombs and timed charges had been placed in classrooms, staff rooms, auditoriums, and even school buses. The group further claimed to have hacked into the schools’ IT systems, stolen sensitive student and staff data, and compromised security cameras. The email threatened that “any attempt to contact authorities” would trigger explosions and the release of stolen data.

The group demanded payment of USD 2,000 in cryptocurrency Ethereum (0.48 ETH) within 48 hours, threatening “maximum casualties” if ignored. Some schools also reported a separate demand of USD 25,000, police sources confirmed.

Fire tenders, bomb disposal squads, and Delhi Fire Services teams rushed to multiple schools, including DAV Public School, Faith Academy, Doon Public School, Sarvodaya Vidyalaya, and Andhra School in Karol Bagh, after alerts were raised. However, no suspicious material was found during extensive search and cordon operations.

This is not the first such incident. Just two days earlier, on August 18, the same group had issued similar threats to schools like Delhi Public School Dwarka, ShreeRam World School, and Modern Convent, demanding USD 5,000 in cryptocurrency. Those threats were later declared hoaxes after thorough inspections.

What is a C4 explosive?

C-4, short for Composition C-4, is a plasticised form of RDX (Research Department Explosive) commonly used in military demolitions. It consists of 91% RDX, mixed with binding agents such as polyisobutylene, motor oil, and 2-ethylhexyl sebacate. When detonated, it rapidly converts into compressed gas, producing a powerful shockwave capable of destroying concrete and steel structures.

Schools remain on high alert

On Wednesday, Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya in Malviya Nagar received the threat email at 7:40 am, while Andhra School in Karol Bagh was alerted at 7:42 am. Security agencies are treating the case with utmost seriousness despite the absence of explosives in past incidents.

A senior Delhi Police official confirmed that cyber teams are investigating the origin of the emails and tracing cryptocurrency wallet addresses mentioned in the ransom notes.
