Sikh separatist Pannun claims India operating spy network in US, Canada
A Sikh separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun has alleged that India is running a spy network in US and Canada and that the government of both the nations need to must get tougher on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government for trying to silence dissidents on foreign soil.
Pannun was a target of alleged foiled assassination plot in connection to which US has charged two Indian nationals and are being prosecuted. The two accused include an ex-government official who as per the indictment worked as an intelligence officer and orchestrated the assassination plan.
Pannun further added, that Modi government should not be allowed to conduct hostile activity in foreign countries, Pannun said, adding that said India’s consulates in the US and Canada were running a “spy network”.
He also said that, ex-government official Vikas Yadav was just a “just a middle-tier soldier” who was directed to carry out the tasks of planning assassination plot by higher Indian officials. New Delhi has also confirmed that Yadav is no longer an Indian government official without giving details about whether he had been an intelligence officer.
The US and Canada “need to put their foot down that regimes like Modi’s…should not be allowed to come to America or Canada, challenge their sovereignty and get away with it. They need to put their foot down and close (the consulates) permanently,” he said.
India did not immediately commented on the allegations on Pannun on the other hand US and Canada have declined to respond. Not to mention, Pannun has been put on the designated terrorist list Union Home Ministry.
