'We will move forward with new energy': PM-elect Narendra Modi thanks citizens for third term

PTC Web Desk: Prime Minister-elect Narendra Modi on Friday met President Droupadi Murmu to stake claim to form a new government. He is likely to be sworn-in as the Prime Minister for the third time at 6 pm on June 9, according to sources in the BJP.

Earlier, in a show of unity, all alliance partners of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) unanimously passed a resolution endorsing Narendra Modi as their leader. Narendra Modi expressed his gratitude to the people for the opportunity to serve them again and promised that the NDA government will provide good governance.

The newly elected MPs of the NDA gathered at the Central Hall of the old Parliament Building this morning to discuss Cabinet formation ahead of the upcoming swearing-in ceremony. This meeting follows the NDA’s success in the Lok Sabha Elections, where they secured a majority with 293 seats. However, the BJP itself won only 240 seats, a significant drop from its 2019 tally.

Senior BJP leader Pralhad Joshi announced that all NDA parties had unanimously passed a resolution electing Narendra Modi as their leader. In total, 21 NDA leaders signed the resolution, which praised Modi's contributions to nation-building, welfare of the poor, and development, emphasizing their collective commitment to these efforts.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), comprising the BJP, Chandrababu Naidu-led Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal United (JDU), and Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena among others, has successfully secured 293 seats in the Lok Sabha, comfortably surpassing the majority mark of 272 in the 543-member house.

Today, the alliance also submitted its list of MPs to the President, further solidifying its position. This follows a unanimous resolution by all NDA partners endorsing Narendra Modi as their leader. The Prime Minister, in response, thanked the citizens for their continued support and pledged that the NDA government will provide good governance.

Prime Minister-elect Narendra Modi expressed his gratitude to the citizens for giving him the opportunity to serve for a third term. He emphasised the visible transformation across various sectors and assured that there would be no lack of effort in the government's work. "We will move forward with new energy," Modi added.  He also mentioned receiving an invitation from the President for the swearing-in ceremony.
