PTC Web Desk:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday gave a significant push to India’s Swadeshi and green mobility initiatives by inaugurating Suzuki Motor’s localised production of hybrid battery electrodes in Gujarat and flagging off Maruti Suzuki’s first global battery electric vehicle, the e-VITARA. The electric SUV, manufactured in India, will now be exported to over 100 countries, including Japan and several European markets.

Ahead of the ceremony in Hansalpur, Gujarat, PM Modi shared on social media: “Today is a special day in India’s quest for self-reliance and becoming a hub for green mobility. The made-in-India e-VITARA will be flagged off for exports to over a hundred nations. In addition, production of hybrid battery electrodes will also begin at the new plant.”

Adding to the momentum of India’s EV ecosystem, PM Modi also inaugurated a lithium-ion battery manufacturing unit established jointly by Suzuki, Toshiba, and Denso. The facility is designed to produce more than 80 per cent of the components and processes essential for lithium-ion batteries, significantly reducing import reliance while enabling large-scale exports.

With the operationalisation of this plant, India is set to emerge as Suzuki’s global hub for electric vehicle production, strengthening the country’s position in the international green mobility market.
