PTC Web Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked a historic moment on Saturday by inaugurating Sela Tunnel, the world's longest twin-lane tunnel, situated at an altitude of 13,000 feet in Arunachal Pradesh. The strategically significant tunnel promises year-round connectivity to Tawang, addressing a vital infrastructure need in the region.

Twin Tunnels and Approach Roads

The Sela Tunnel project comprises two tunnels, with a combined length of approximately 12 km, and over 8 km of approach roads. The primary tunnel is a single-tube structure spanning 980 metre, while the second tunnel serves as an emergency escape route, measuring 1.5 km. The comprehensive infrastructure project is expected to enhance connectivity and accessibility in the challenging terrain of Arunachal Pradesh.

Strategic Significance Near the LAC

Given its proximity to the Line of Actual Control, the Sela Tunnel holds strategic importance, providing uninterrupted access to Tawang and other forward areas bordering China. The completion of this project strengthens the infrastructure backbone in the region, ensuring enhanced security and connectivity.

Also unveils development projects worth Rs 55,600 crore

In a comprehensive move to boost development in the Northeast, Prime Minister Modi unveiled projects worth a staggering Rs 55,600 crore. These initiatives, spread across Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, and Arunachal Pradesh, signify the government's commitment to fostering growth and progress in the region.
