Police in Mumbai arrest couple for selling newborn and 2-year-old son to buy drugs
Mumbai, November 24: The Mumbai Crime Branch made a distressing arrest involving a couple allegedly selling their own children to fuel their drug addiction. This horrific act led to the apprehension of three individuals, including the couple and another person, while also rescuing a one-month-old baby girl from Andheri. The search continues for their second child, a two-year-old son.
The accused, Shabbir and Sania Khan, identified as the parents, along with Shakeel Makrani, were taken into custody. Additionally, Usha Rathod, suspected to be the agent orchestrating the sale, was detained by the Crime Branch.
According to Daya Nayak of the Mumbai Crime Branch, "A couple addicted to drugs sold their own two children to raise money in Andheri. As soon as the couple's family learned about the incident, the story came to light. Police have registered a case against the accused couple and two others. The accused couple sold the boy for sixty thousand rupees and the one-month-old girl for fourteen thousand rupees."
The distressing narrative reveals the dire circumstances: Shabbir and Sania, deeply entrenched in drug addiction, resorted to selling their children to sustain their habit. Their acquaintance, Usha Rathod, became involved in facilitating these transactions. Investigations are ongoing to identify the individuals to whom the children were sold.
Rubina Khan, Shabbir's sister, was appalled upon discovering the incident and promptly reported it to the D.N. Nagar police station, lodging a complaint against her brother and sister-in-law. Acting on Rubina's complaint, the D.N. Nagar police initiated a case and handed over the investigation to the crime branch for further scrutiny.
