Raja Raghuvanshi murder case: Who is Sanjay Verma? Sonam's 112 calls unravel shocking truth behind honeymoon murder

Raja Raghuvanshi murder case: In a chilling twist to the honeymoon murder case that has stunned the nation, investigators have uncovered that Sonam Raghuvanshi made 112 phone calls to a man named Sanjay Verma in the weeks before her wedding — only to discover that Verma never existed. According to Indore Police, the number Sonam repeatedly dialed between March 1 and March 25 was actually being used by her boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha, who created the fake identity of Sanjay Verma to mask their relationship. Sonam, 24, reportedly had long, frequent conversations with him during this period.

This revelation has placed Kushwaha at the centre of the brutal killing of Sonam’s husband, Raja Raghuvanshi. The couple had tied the knot on May 11 in Indore and departed for their honeymoon on May 20. Merely three days later, they vanished near Sohra in Meghalaya, around 65 km from Shillong.

Raja’s decomposed body was eventually discovered on June 2 in a 200-foot-deep gorge near Weisawdong Falls in Cherrapunji. The police confirmed he had been hacked to death and thrown into the ravine.

One week after the body was found, Sonam — who had also been reported missing — was tracked down and arrested in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. During interrogation, she allegedly admitted to orchestrating the murder along with Kushwaha and three hired killers: Vishal Chauhan, Anand Kurmi, and Akash Rajput. All four have since been apprehended by the Indore Police.

"Sonam was not just aware of the murder plan — she stood there and watched as her husband was killed," revealed Assistant Commissioner of Police Poonam Chand Yadav.

Meanwhile, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) from Meghalaya reached Indore on Wednesday to deepen the probe. The team questioned Sonam’s family for over two hours and also visited Kushwaha’s residence, where they spoke to his mother for nearly 30 minutes.

While the love affair between Sonam and Kushwaha is the primary angle, investigators are also probing if more complex motives were at play in the cold-blooded murder of Raja Raghuvanshi.
