PTC Web Desk:  Surendra Kumar, a 36-year-old assistant medical sergeant with the Indian Air Force (IAF), was killed during a Pakistani airstrike on the Udhampur airbase in Jammu and Kashmir early Saturday morning, officials confirmed. A native of Mandawa in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district, Kumar had served in the armed forces for over 14 years.

Jhunjhunu district collector Ramavatar Meena stated that Surendra Kumar, posted at the 39th wing of the Udhampur airbase, lost his life in the attack launched during the early hours. "Upon receiving the news, district police superintendent Sharad Chaudhary and I visited his family to convey the tragic information," Meena said.

Kumar had earlier been stationed in Lucknow before transferring to Udhampur two months ago. During his last visit to Jhunjhunu in April, he had organised a ceremony to celebrate his newly built home. On April 20, he returned to the airbase with his wife, Seema (34). Seema, who frequently stayed with Kumar at his postings, had recently returned to her native village of Balaria following her grandfather’s death.

Following the heartbreaking news of her husband’s demise, Seema fainted and was rushed to a government hospital in Nawalgarh, where she was discharged after initial treatment. The couple has two children—Vartika (11) and Daksh (7)—both enrolled in local schools.

Surendra Kumar’s mortal remains are expected to arrive in Jhunjhunu by Sunday evening.
