Ram temple consecration: Assam declares Jan 22 as dry day

Ram temple consecration: The Assam government has declared January 22 as a "dry day" since the consecration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya will take place on that day.

Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah said at a press conference after a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday, "To commemorate the inauguration of Ram temple, the Assam government has decided to declare January 22 as a dry day."

The ceremony in Ayodhya will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, scores of chief ministers from NDA-ruled states, and over 6,000 people.

The cabinet also decided to give three development councils for the Mising, Rabha Hasong, and Tiwa communities more financial and administrative authority.

"We will send a proposal to the Centre to secure more funds for these councils," he said.

The government also approved a financial package for women registered in self-help groups (SHGs) under an existing scheme. "This will be a support to entrepreneur women for their ventures. Almost 49 lakh women can take benefits under this scheme.”
