Severe heatwave red alert for Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh; Delhi records 47.4 degrees Celsius

PTC News Desk: As North India suffers from the sweltering heat, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a severe heatwave red alert for Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Chandigarh. The weather department has predicted heatwave to severe heatwave conditions over the next five days.

On May 23, heatwave conditions are predicted in several parts of Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Gujarat, Saurashtra, and Kutch.


47.4 degrees in Delhi

Temperatures in numerous parts of Delhi again soared above 47 degrees Celsius on Monday, prompting the weather office to issue a 'red alert' for the next five days.

The scorching heat pushed the city's peak power demand to its highest level in May, while the Delhi government ordered schools that had not yet closed for summer holidays to do so immediately.
