Temperatures in numerous parts of Delhi again soared above 47 degrees Celsius on Monday, prompting the weather office to issue a 'red alert' for the next five days.

The scorching heat pushed the city's peak power demand to its highest level in May, while the Delhi government ordered schools that had not yet closed for summer holidays to do so immediately.
