Courtroom clash over Sunjay Kapur’s fortune: Priya Kapur says to Karisma, 'Your husband left you, I’m a widow'

PTC Web Desk: A heated courtroom battle has begun over the estate of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur, estimated to be worth nearly Rs 30,000 crore. On Wednesday, Sunjay’s wife Priya Kapur opposed a petition filed by his children from his former marriage with actor Karisma Kapoor, who are seeking a share in his personal assets.

The petition, moved by Samaira Kapur through her mother Karisma Kapoor, along with her minor brother (represented by Karisma as guardian), contests a will dated March 21. The document reportedly transfers Sunjay Kapur’s entire personal estate to Priya Kapur. The children claim they were never informed of this will by Sunjay, Priya, or anyone else.

During the hearing, advocate Rajiv Nayar, representing Priya Kapur, argued that the case has no legal standing. “I am his lawful wife. Where were these claims of love and affection during the prolonged divorce battle that went all the way to the Supreme Court?” he remarked, referring to the 2016 divorce between Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur.

Nayar added, “My client is the widow and the last legally wedded wife. Sunjay had moved on years ago. Now that he is gone, the focus should be on respecting his will.”

The court will continue hearing arguments on the validity of the will and the claims raised by both sides.
