Tragedy averted: Afghan plane lands on runway meant for take-offs at Delhi airport
PTC News Desk: A major tragedy was averted after Ariana Afghan flight from Kabul landed on a runway that was meant only for take-offs. Fortunately no aircraft was present in the moment for departure. The authorities have launched investigation into possible lapses in air traffic coordination.
While Runway 29R is designated for departures and 29L for arrivals, the two are occasionally interchanged depending on operational requirements, including wind direction.
The investigation is underway to determine whether the aircraft landed on this runway by mistake or on the instructions given by Air Traffic Control.
