Tragic discovery in Varanasi: Sisters found living with mother's body for nearly a year
PTC Web Desk: In a bizarre incident reported from Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi district, two sisters were found living with the corpse of their mother, who had passed away nearly a year ago, inside their residence in the Madarwa area of the city.
Their neighbours noticed the absence of the girls for several days and observed their house securely shut. Growing concerned, they alerted the girls' relatives, who visited the residence and notified the authorities about the unsettling situation. Upon arriving at the scene, the police recovered the woman's body and found the two daughters seated beside it.
The woman, identified as Usha Devi (52), had passed away on December 8, 2022. However, due to financial constraints, her daughters refrained from performing the last rites, choosing instead to live with her remains without disclosing her demise to anyone.
To mask the strong odor emanating from the body, the two daughters, Pallavi Tripathi (27) and Vaishvik Tripathi (17), resorted to burning incense sticks (agarbattis), as shared by the police.
The woman's husband had reportedly left home two years ago and had not returned even after his wife's death.
Following the recovery of the body, the police took both girls into custody, and further investigation into the incident is underway.
