Two hawala agents arrested for funding Delhi blast suspect; Rs 20 lakh trail linked to fertiliser purchases

PTC Web Desk:  Two men suspected of operating as hawala couriers and allegedly facilitating cash transfers to Delhi blast prime suspect Dr Mohammad Umar Un Nabi were detained on Saturday, according to officials investigating the case. The accused, whose names have been withheld until interrogation is completed, are believed to have channelled funds from hawala operators in Delhi’s Chandni Chowk to Dr Umar at Al-Falah Medical College in Faridabad.

As per information, the detained handlers acted as intermediaries, routinely collecting cash from Chandni Chowk and delivering it to Dr Umar. The money was reportedly used to support procurement and logistics for the terror module.

Initial findings indicate that nearly Rs 20 lakh was moved through the hawala network, which was later spent on buying 26 quintals of NPK fertiliser, a blend of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, commonly used in agriculture but capable of being repurposed for explosive material. Officials said the fertiliser was purchased from dealers in Nuh, Sohna, Gurugram, and Faridabad.

The investigating team is now mapping the entire money trail, focusing on hawala handlers, intermediaries and local traders who may have assisted in the financial movement.

“The financial backbone of the module is being dismantled. Every transaction linked to the procurement of explosive substances is being tracked,” an NIA officer said.

Over 20 fertiliser shop owners in Nuh and Sohna are under scrutiny for selling chemical supplies without verifying buyer credentials. Two local political figures are being questioned for allegedly helping conceal certain transactions.

Officials described the operation as a well-organised financial web involving radicalised professionals, traders and handlers.

A massive explosion had ripped through the area near Red Fort on Monday evening when a slow-moving Hyundai i20 detonated at 6.52 pm, killing 13 persons and leaving several injured.
