UK Dy High Commissioner launches book '75 Years, 75 Women, 75 Words' to celebrate women power

Chandigarh, August 2:  To celebrate the 75th anniversary of Indian Independence, the British Deputy High Commission in Chandigarh on Thursday unveiled a book titled '75 years, 75 women, 75 words'.

The book '75 years, 75 women, 75 words' showcases the remarkable contributions of women in reinforcing the 'Living Bridge' between India and the United Kingdom. The launch event, presided over by British Deputy High Commissioner in Chandigarh Caroline Rowett, brought together the outstanding women featured in the book, both in-person and virtually, to celebrate their achievements.


The reception saw an esteemed gathering of distinguished guests from various sectors, including government officials, politicians, business leaders, journalists and British nationals.

During the event, Caroline Rowett expressed her profound admiration for the women featured in the book, recognising their remarkable achievements. She emphasised how these accomplishments exemplify the extensive and profound connections that underpin the 'Living Bridge,' fostering a strong bond between India and the United Kingdom.


Caroline Rowett found it enthralling to read about how these inspirational women forged their life paths and careers, drawing on their unique experiences from two diverse countries and cultures.

Speaking about the significance of the 'Living Bridge' in the 75th year of Indian Independence,  the British Deputy High Commissioner said, "The special links between this region of North West India and the UK merit a special celebration during India's 75th anniversary. Our unique 'Living Bridge' continues to flourish in the twenty-first century, fostering creativity and inclusivity in both our nations. These stories, often disregarded, are a testament to women’s resilience and determination."

The book showcases women from both the region and the UK, who have played pivotal roles in strengthening the connections of our 'Living Bridge' while embracing multicultural lives. It features a diverse array of contributors, including politicians, civil servants, entrepreneurs, artists, journalists, and social activists. Their presence highlights the rich tapestry of talent and achievements flourishing in both nations.

The event also saw the presence of Chandru K Iyer, UK’s Deputy High Commissioner for Karnataka and Kerala, and His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner – South Asia (Investment), along with Natalia Leigh, Head of Political and Bilateral Affairs, British High Commission, New Delhi.

The launch event turned out to be a resounding success, with guests relishing the warm hospitality and ample networking opportunities in a relaxed setting.
