Unseasonal rain, lightning kill 5 in Uttar Pradesh; CM orders immediate relief
PTC Web Desk: Unseasonal rains, accompanied by hailstorm and lightning, lashed parts of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, claiming five lives in Firozabad, Siddharthnagar, and Sitapur districts, according to officials.
In Firozabad, two persons were killed by lightning. A 30-year-old pregnant woman, Lalita Devi, was struck by lightning in Daulatpur village of the Narkhi area. In another incident, 32-year-old Padav Veer Singh lost his life in Chinari village of Jasrana area. Firozabad ADM Vishu Raja confirmed the deaths and stated that financial aid will be provided to the affected families.
In Siddharthnagar, a labourer named Ghanshyam died after being hit by lightning in Gaura Mangua village while he was on his way to work during the rains.
Sitapur also reported two deaths in separate incidents. Harishchandra died after a lightning strike while working in his field in Moch Khurd village under Biswan Police Station limits. In another tragic event, 55-year-old Kusuma Devi died after a wall collapsed on her due to heavy rainfall in Rasoolpur village of Sakran Police Station area.
Reacting to the loss of life and property, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials to take swift action in all affected areas. He instructed the district authorities to ensure timely relief operations and to personally visit affected villages. “In cases of death or livestock loss due to lightning, rain, or storm, distribute relief funds immediately,” said the CM in an official statement.
The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of providing proper medical care to the injured. With the ongoing wheat procurement season, he ordered that precautions be taken to safely store produce at procurement centres and mandis.
Adityanath further directed officials to survey all crop damage and submit detailed reports so that appropriate compensation can be provided. In areas facing waterlogging, he ordered immediate drainage measures to minimise disruption and further damage.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued a warning for more heavy rainfall and lightning in several districts, including Kaushambi, Varanasi, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Azamgarh, Lucknow, Barabanki, and Raebareli.
The authorities are on high alert, and citizens are advised to take necessary precautions.
