Uttarakhand floods: State faces uptick in mosquito-borne viral diseases; dengue cases cross 600 mark
Uttarakhand dengue cases: In the wake of devastating floods that wreak havoc across Uttarakhand, another concerning crisis has emerged — the spread of vector-borne diseases. With floodwaters receding, flash floods and relentless rainfall across Uttarakhand, state is now grappling with a surge in dengue, chikungunya and eye flu cases.
Amid the nature’s havoc in Uttarakhand, dengue cases are now creating fear among the people as the state has crossed six hundred cases of the mosquito-borne viral disease.
According to the data, Dehradun has the maximum number of four-hundred and eighteen (418) dengue patients while the toll in the entire state stands at six hundred (600).
Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar and Dehradun districts of the state are the most affected by dengue.
In the aftermath of recent heavy rains, stagnant water left behind serve as a breeding haven for mosquitoes responsible for transmitting dengue and chikungunya viruses. Meanwhile, waterlogging in several areas of the state also serve Aedes mosquitoes to breed. These mosquitoes are responsible for transmitting dengue, chikungunya, and Zika viruses.
As the state grapple with the significant surge in dengue cases, several steps like campaigns, door-to-door services are being taken by health authorities to manage the spread of these illnesses.
Notably, Dengue (break-bone fever) is a viral infection that spreads from mosquitoes to people.
