Case registered against Virat Kohli's pub in Bengaluru for not having designated space for smoking
PTC News Desk: Virat Kohli’s pub and restaurant, One8 Commune in Bengaluru, is facing legal issues due to the absence of a designated smoking area. The Cubbon Park Police have filed a suo motu case against the establishment for breaching provisions of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA).
The venue has been charged under Sections 4 and 21 of COTPA, which mandate the presence of designated smoking zones in specific locations such as hotels, restaurants, and airports.
The case was filed on Saturday as part of a special initiative by the Bengaluru City Police to strictly enforce public smoking regulations. This action closely follows the Karnataka government's recent move to impose a complete ban on hookah bars and raise the legal age for purchasing tobacco products from 18 to 21. These changes are part of the amended Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2024, which recently received presidential approval.
This isn’t the first legal issue for One8 Commune. In June last year, the establishment faced a case for operating beyond permitted hours. Later in December, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) issued a notice based on a complaint citing fire safety violations and the absence of a clearance certificate from the Fire Department.
