Women's rights body summons Cong MP Randeep Surjewala over comments on Hema Malini

PTC News Desk: The Haryana State Commission for Women on Tuesday summoned Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala to appear before it on April 18 to explain comments he made about BJP leader Hema Malini while campaigning in the state.

The commission stated that the Congress leader's alleged remarks violated a woman's dignity and were inappropriate.

The controversy erupted after BJP IT department head Amit Malviya shared a video allegedly showing Surjewala making offensive remarks about Hema Malini while criticising the BJP.

The BJP promptly filed a complaint with the EC, calling Surjewala's comments "vulgar, sexist, and disparaging." The Election Commission, too, took a harsh stance against Surjewala, issuing a show-cause notice for what it described as "undignified, uncivilised, and vulgar" remarks made against the actor-politician.

Surjewala defended himself, claiming that the video had been doctored and manipulated. He claimed that he never meant to offend or demean the BJP MP.
