Noida airport to bring 12 million passenger traffic every year, says Civil Aviation Secretary
Union Civil Aviation Secretary Rajiv Bansal on Wednesday said a traffic of 12 million passengers each year was expected between the first phase and the final phase of the Noida international airport in Uttar Pradesh's Jewar, which is expected to be ready for flight operations by 2024. “The traffic of 12 million passengers per year is expected in the first phase and by the completion of the final phase, ie between 2040 and 2050, the capacity of the Jewar airport will be to handle 70 million passengers per year,” Civil Aviation Secretary Rajiv Bansal added. The Union Civil Aviation Secretary, however, clarified that the Noida airport would start with domestic flights. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be laying the foundation stone of the international airport, which is expected to be operational by September 2024.
The Noida airport is being built on 1,334 hectares of land. The project will be implemented in four phases. The construction of the first phase is to be completed in 36 months and the operational period of the first phase will be 2023-27. Notably, Uttar Pradesh would be the only state in India to have five international air transit hubs. The amount excludes the money to be spend by the Uttar Pradesh Government towards R&R and land acquisition. The Jewar airport will be developed by Yamuna International Airport Pvt Ltd (YIAPL), in which Zurich Airport International AG has 100 per cent shareholding. -PTC News with agency inputs
