Pakistan: Suicide bombing in North Waziristan, 10 security personnel injured

North Waziristan (Pakistan), July 5: As many as 10 security personnel were injured in a suicide bomber attack on the convoy of security forces in the North Waziristan tribal district on Monda, local media reported.

The security forces' truck was attacked near Mirali's Khadi market, according to the Dawn. Shahid Ali Khan, Deputy Commissioner of North Waziristan, confirmed the suicide bombing attack on the convoy, claiming that ten people were hurt, three of whom were critically injured. According to officials, the security forces convoy was heading from Mirali to the district headquarters in Miramshah when a suicide bomber on a motorcycle blew himself up near one of the vehicles.

As per Dawn, three personnel were critically injured in the incident and were taken to the Bannu garrison's military hospital for treatment. Soon after the attack, security forces cordoned off the area and began searching for the culprits. Residents told the Dawn that the Mirali-Miramshah route had been closed to the public.

The search is currently underway, according to officials. However, no group has claimed responsibility for the incident.

This was the second suicide attack on security officers in less than a month. Previously, on May 30, a suicide bomber targeted a security forces vehicle parked at a checkpoint in the Razmak district of North Waziristan, injuring two security personnel and numerous children. The vehicle was parked at a checkpoint in the Dosali neighbourhood when a suicide bomber on a motorcycle drove into it. The incident also injured two children who were playing nearby.

The attack occurred while the government was in talks with the proscribed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan, which had declared an indefinite ceasefire. Terrorist operations are on the rise in Pakistan's border areas, particularly in the North Waziristan district, as a result of Pakistan's political instability and cross-border tensions with its neighbours.
