Patiala medical student murder: FIR names childhood friend for stabbing MBBS student to death, accused at large
PTC News Desk: Patiala police on Tuesday booked a close friend for killing a final-year MBBS student of Government Medical College (GMC), Patiala.
Kamaldeep, 24, was found dead with multiple stab injuries at his paying guest accommodation in Patiala’s New Lal Bagh Colony. The incident reportedly took place on Sunday night, while the matter came to light the following day after locals informed the police.
“Mohit Verma, a childhood friend of the deceased Kamaldeep Kumar Mittal, has been booked under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. He is on the run,” said Patiala superintendent of police (SP) Palwinder Singh Cheema.
“After the murder, Mohit went to his hometown and then fled from there. Our teams are conducting raids and he will be arrested soon,” said SP Cheema.
While the exact motive behind the murder has not been ascertained, preliminary investigation suggests monetary issue can be a probable cause.
According to officials involved in the investigation, Mohit transferred nearly ₹25,000 from the deceased’s phone into his account after the murder.
The autopsy has revealed that victim sustained over 10 stab wounds mainly around the neck and the face with forensic experts describing the killing as exceptionally violent due to the nture and number of injuries.
“Multiple stab injuries to the neck completely damaged the vocal cords. Most of the wounds were bone-deep. A sharp-edged weapon was used by the murderer,” said an official privy to the investigation.
