Amritsar, August 16: A collective prayer was offered today at Sri Akal Takht Sahib for 10 lakh Punjabis who were killed during the partition of India-Pakistan in 1947. On this occasion, a large number of representatives associated with Sikh, Hindu and Muslim communities were present. He appealed to the governments of both the countries to bring condolence resolutions in their respective parliaments for the Punjabis killed in the partition of 1947. He further said that there should be religion within politics, but when politics runs only with the support of religion, it harms humanity.   He said that all the Gurudwaras, including Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, are remembering the Punjabis who were killed in the partition of 1947 today. Independence Day celebrations were celebrated but those Punjabis were not remembered. Even today, many elderly people yearn to see their departed loved ones in both the countries. Both Governments should generously grant religious visas so that pilgrims can visit their dear ones. When the Sangat goes to Pakistan for darshan of shrines, there is a longing to go to the village of their ancestors, to meet the departed, but they do not get permission for the same. Akhand psath and Ardas was held today to pay tribute to the Punjabis who were brutally killed during the horrors of 1947 partition.
