PTC Web Desk: The Delhi Police on Tuesday filed two cases related to alleged violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. One case was registered against Delhi Chief Minister Atishi Marlena for allegedly breaching MCC guidelines, while another was lodged against her supporters for allegedly attacking a police officer.

According to police officials, two AAP workers, Ashmit and Sagar Mehta, were arrested for allegedly assaulting head constable Kaushal Pal of Govindpuri Police Station around 1 am on Tuesday. The police said Kushal Pal responded to reports of a large gathering at Baba Fateh Singh Marg during the early hours. When he began recording the crowd on video, he was allegedly attacked by the two party workers.

Meanwhile, Atishi, the AAP candidate from Kalkaji, accused the Delhi Police of targeting her while ignoring violations by BJP candidate Ramesh Bidhuri. She alleged that Bidhuri’s family members were openly flouting MCC rules without facing any repercussions.

Expressing her frustration on X, Atishi criticised Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Delhi Police, stating, "The Election Commission is truly amazing! Ramesh Bidhuri ji’s family members are openly violating the MCC, yet no action is taken. When I filed a complaint and called the police and @ECISVEEP, they booked a case against me instead!"

According to the police, Atishi was found violating MCC norms by arriving at Baba Fateh Singh Marg with 10 vehicles and nearly sixty supporters on Monday night. She reportedly refused to disperse when asked to leave, leading to a case being filed against her under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Atishi further alleged that the Delhi Police unlawfully detained two persons who were documenting MCC violations. Sharing a video on X, she claimed, "The boy recording the violation was beaten and taken away by the police. You can see in this video that the police are kicking him. Instead of taking action against the violators, the police targeted those who filmed them."

Earlier, Atishi had accused Ramesh Bidhuri’s son, Manish Bidhuri, of violating MCC rules by campaigning during the mandatory 'silence period,' which restricts political activities 48 hours before voting. Following her complaint, Delhi Police booked Manish Bidhuri under Section 126 of The Representation of the People Act, which prohibits public meetings during this period.
