Delhi elections 2025: Congress set for third straight Delhi defeat
PTC Web Desk: The latest trends for all 70 seats in the Delhi Assembly elections indicate a significant shift in the political landscape. As per the current data, the BJP is leading, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is trailing. Meanwhile, the Congress, which had initially shown progress on one seat, has now fallen behind, bringing it closer to another zero-seat performance for the third consecutive election.
Congress leader Devender Yadav, who was leading from Badli, has held key responsibilities within the party across multiple states. Yadav, a resident of Bhalswa village in Delhi, has previously served as a two-term Congress MLA from Badli from 2008 to 2015. In the 2015 and 2020 elections, however, the seat was won by the AAP.
Devender Yadav is currently in charge of Congress' Punjab unit and has earlier overseen party affairs in Uttarakhand. His selection as Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president on May 5, 2023, followed the resignation of Arvinder Singh Lovely, who joined the BJP in April 2024.
Apart from Badli, Congress candidate Rajesh Chauhan is also in the contest from Deoli constituency, where he was initially leading. However, the latest Election Commission data shows that AAP’s Prem Chauhan is now ahead in Deoli.
AAP has been dominant in Badli for the past two terms, with candidate Ajesh Yadav serving as the MLA for the last 10 years. This year, he is attempting to secure a hat-trick victory. However, he faces stiff competition from BJP’s Deepak Chaudhary, making the contest more intense. Badli falls within the North-West Delhi Lok Sabha constituency, an area that has seen political fluctuations over the years.
As per the most recent trends from the Election Commission, BJP is leading. The shift indicates that BJP is set to form the government in Delhi, potentially breaking AAP’s stronghold over the capital for the last two terms.
With the Congress struggling to secure even a single seat and AAP witnessing a significant decline from its previous 62-seat majority in 2020, the results mark a crucial turning point in Delhi’s political landscape.
