Delhi liquor policy: ED sends 6th summon to Arvind Kejriwal

New Delhi, February 14: Delhi Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal received yet another summons from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the alleged Delhi liquor policy case. This marks the sixth summons issued to Arvind Kejriwal by the probe agency, as he had previously skipped five, denouncing them as "illegal attempts" to arrest him. Kejriwal alleges that the repeated summonses are a tactic to hinder his election campaigning.

Meanwhile, the Rouse Avenue Court has summoned Arvind Kejriwal on February 17 after the ED filed a case against him for non-compliance with the previous summonses. The ED lodged a complaint against the AAP chief on February 3 in connection with the alleged Delhi liquor policy case. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Divya Malhotra said, under Section 50 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), probe agencies possess the authority to summon any person deemed necessary for evidence or record production during an investigation.

The court said Arvind Kejriwal is "bound to comply" with such summonses "by virtue of Section 50(3) of the Act." It said in failing to do so, the Delhi Chief Minister had purportedly violated his legal obligation under the specified section.
