OBC push for 2024 polls: Return of two UP leaders provides insight into BJP's strategy
New Delhi, July 16: In a significant blow to the Samajwadi Party, a prominent former ally has returned to the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP), known for its influence among OBC voters in eastern Uttar Pradesh, announced its alliance with the BJP, focusing on fighting for social justice, national security, and empowering marginalized groups.
Dara Singh Chauhan, who previously served as a Samajwadi Party MLA from Ghosi in Mau district, resigned from the Uttar Pradesh Assembly before making the announcement.

The SBSP, led by Om Prakash Rajbhar, fought the 2022 UP elections in alliance with the Samajwadi Party but eventually returned to the NDA. Rajbhar expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP chief JP Nadda for their support.

Rajbhar emphasised that his party would actively advocate for social justice and the welfare of the deprived, oppressed, backward classes, Dalits, women, farmers, youth, and all vulnerable sections of society.
Despite his previous intentions to align with the opposition parties in Uttar Pradesh, Rajbhar stated that his attempts to engage with them did not yield any response, leading him to join the fight for social justice led by the prime minister, home minister, and UP chief minister.
The return of the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party to the NDA marks another setback for the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh. The SBSP's focus on advocating for social justice and addressing the needs of marginalized sections aligns with the agenda of the BJP-led alliance. This development further shapes the political landscape in the state ahead of future elections.
