Rahul Gandhi, INDIA Bloc MPs detained and later released during Monsoon Session protest over Bihar voter list revision
The Delhi Police have released all opposition MPs detained on way to EC office
Both Houses of Parliament reconvened after being adjourned until 2 pm earlier in the day, following noisy protests by opposition MPs demanding a debate on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar’s electoral rolls and related issues.
The BJP hit out at opposition parties for protesting against the voter roll revision in Bihar and alleging “vote theft” in previous elections, accusing them of trying to foment “anarchy” in the country.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan dismissed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s “vote theft” charge against the BJP and the Election Commission as “a lie,” saying the Congress resorts to such claims because it has no other issues to raise.
Pradhan alleged the opposition’s agitation was a calculated bid to destabilise the nation. “Congress and other opposition parties want to create anarchy in the country,” he said, further accusing Gandhi of echoing the rhetoric of “big forces” seeking to destroy Indian democracy.
He claimed the Congress and its allies were making baseless allegations about the electoral process and the voter roll revision in Bihar to question the Election Commission’s credibility and allegedly facilitate “intruders” in becoming voters.

Notably, amid the ongoing Parliament Monsoon Session protests over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar, the Election Commission of India (ECI) had approved an interaction with Opposition leaders at 12 pm on Monday. Due to space constraints, the commission had requested the names of up to 30 participants from the protesting Opposition parties, along with their vehicle details.
The decision followed a formal request from Congress MP Jairam Ramesh, who sought an appointment on behalf of multiple political parties. In its letter to Ramesh, the ECI secretariat confirmed the meeting but did not specify the agenda.
