PM Modi takes a jibe at the Congress manifesto at Saharanpur rally

PTC News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a scathing critique of the Congress party's recently unveiled Lok Sabha election manifesto, likening it to the ideologies of the Muslim League. Speaking at a public rally in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur, ahead of the state's voting in the initial phase of the national elections on April 19, Modi condemned the manifesto as being out of touch with the contemporary aspirations of India.

"The kind of manifesto released by Congress yesterday proves that today's Congress is completely cut off from the hopes and aspirations of today's India. The same thinking is reflected in the Congress manifesto which was there in the Muslim League during the freedom movement," asserted Modi.

He went on to assert that the Congress manifesto was not just influenced by the Muslim League but was also heavily influenced by leftist ideologies. Modi emphasised that his government, in stark contrast, functions without any form of discrimination, with the aim of ensuring that government schemes are accessible to every section of society, irrespective of caste or creed.

Modi's criticisms come hot on the heels of the release of the Congress party's manifesto for the upcoming general elections. The manifesto, dubbed 'Paanch Nyay' or the 'five pillars of justice', promises to address various social and economic issues through schemes like 'Yuva Nyay', 'Naari Nyay', 'Kisaan Nyay', 'Shramik Nyay', and 'Hissedari Nyay'.

Key highlights of the manifesto include a legal guarantee for the Minimum Support Price (MSP), a national minimum wage set at Rs 400 per day, reform of personal laws, and the conduct of a nationwide caste census.

The Congress has pledged to ensure that the MSP for agricultural produce is directly credited to the bank accounts of farmers, bypassing intermediaries. Additionally, it vows to develop a robust import-export policy for agricultural commodities, prioritising the welfare of farmers.

Furthermore, the party has committed to passing a constitutional amendment to lift the 50 per cent cap on reservations for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC).

As India gears up for the commencement of the Lok Sabha Elections, with the first phase scheduled for April 19, and subsequent phases spread across April, May, and June, the political landscape is heating up. The country awaits the outcome of this crucial electoral process, with the final vote count slated for June 4.
