PM Modi to visit Manipur for first time since 2023 ethnic violence; to embark on five-state tour from Sept 13
PTC Web Desk: After weeks of speculation, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Friday confirmed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Manipur, marking his first trip to the violence-hit state since May 2023. The Prime Minister will begin his three-day tour of five states — Mizoram, Manipur, Assam, West Bengal, and Bihar — from September 13 to 15, inaugurating and laying the foundation stone of projects worth over Rs 71,850 crore.
On Saturday morning, PM Modi will reach Mizoram, where he is scheduled to inaugurate and launch development projects valued at over Rs 9,000 crore in Aizawl around 10 am. These include the Bairabi–Sairang rail line, which will connect Mizoram to India’s railway network for the first time. He will also address a public gathering.
Later in the day, the Prime Minister will arrive in Manipur. At Churachandpur, he will lay the foundation stone for projects worth more than Rs 7,300 crore, including the Manipur Urban Roads, drainage, and asset management initiative (Rs 3,600 crore), five National Highway projects (Rs 2,500 crore), and the Manipur Infotech Development (MIND) project. He will also launch working women’s hostels across nine locations.
In Imphal, at around 2.30 pm, PM Modi will inaugurate projects valued at over Rs 1,200 crore. These include the Civil Secretariat, IT SEZ Building, new Police Headquarters at Mantripukhri, new Manipur Bhawans in Delhi and Kolkata, and modernised Ima Markets, the renowned all-women’s markets spread across four districts.
The Prime Minister’s tour also includes Assam, where he will attend celebrations for the 100th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika in Guwahati and unveil projects worth over Rs 18,350 crore. In West Bengal, he will inaugurate the 16th Combined Commanders’ Conference 2025 in Kolkata.
The visit will conclude in Bihar, where PM Modi is set to launch the National Makhana Board in Purnea, inaugurate the state’s new airport terminal, and unveil or lay the foundation stone of development projects valued at around Rs 36,000 crore. With the new terminal, Bihar’s operational airports will rise to four.
