Four prominent leaders join BJP in Punjab; CM Mann’s OSD among new entrants
PTC Web Desk: The BJP received a boost in Punjab on Friday as four prominent leaders joined the party at its Chandigarh office, signalling growing political realignments ahead of upcoming electoral battles.
Among those who joined BJP is Charanjit Singh Brar, a former senior leader, along with Onkar Singh, who served as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Their induction is being seen as a significant political development, particularly due to their earlier association with the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Also joining the BJP were Ripjeet Singh Brar and Jasmeet Brar, further strengthening the party’s organisational presence in the state. Senior BJP leaders welcomed the new entrants, describing the move as a sign of growing public confidence in the party’s leadership and policies.
The induction ceremony took place in the presence of senior BJP functionaries, who said more political leaders could follow suit in the coming days.
The development comes at a time when the BJP is actively working to consolidate its base in Punjab, especially in urban centres and key political constituencies.
Notably, the Malwa belt, which accounts for 69 of Punjab’s 117 Assembly seats, plays a decisive role in government formation. BJP leaders believe that gaining ground in this region is key to establishing the party as a serious political contender in the state.
Addressing the gathering, BJP Punjab president Sunil Jakhar said the party’s “family” in Punjab was steadily growing with the induction of leaders who enjoy strong public connect and political credibility.
“These leaders need no introduction. They have earned respect and recognition among the people through their work. Punjab today is passing through a phase of deep concern: citizens feel unsafe and disillusioned. People are now looking towards the BJP with hope,” Jakhar said.
He asserted that the BJP was the only party capable of steering Punjab out of its current crisis. “The state has reached a point where even the Chief Minister’s post appears compromised. BJP alone has the leadership and vision to manage Punjab responsibly,” he added.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who was present at the event, described the new inductions as a significant boost for the party in Punjab.
“It is a matter of pride that the BJP’s family is expanding rapidly in Punjab. Former MP Jagjeet Brar, former MLA Ripjeet Brar, Akali leader Charanjit Singh Brar and Omkar Singh, OSD to the Punjab Chief Minister, have joined the party along with several others. Their decision reflects their commitment to Punjab’s welfare,” Saini said.
He claimed that BJP could ensure security and stability in the state, just as it had done at the national level since 2014.
Saini also expressed concern over the prevailing situation in Punjab, stating that both industrialists and ordinary citizens were increasingly worried about their safety.
Taking a swipe at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Saini accused the party of betraying public trust. “Arvind Kejriwal claims honesty from public platforms, yet he and his senior leaders have been jailed. Several ministers and MLAs in Punjab have also landed in prison. AAP made grand promises but failed to deliver,” he alleged.
