PTC Web Desk: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has revealed the name of his favourite BJP leader during an 'Ask Me Anything' (AMA) session with Gen-Z and students on Instagram.

When asked to name his favourite BJP leader, Rahul Gandhi responded without hesitation, saying "Uncle Amarinder", referring to former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.

His response has sparked political discussions, as Captain Amarinder Singh is currently a BJP leader after ending his long association with the Congress.

Captain Amarinder's journey from Congress to BJP

Captain Amarinder Singh was one of the Congress' most prominent leaders in Punjab and served as the state's Chief Minister. After stepping down from the post, he quit the Congress, launched his own political party and later merged with the BJP.

Despite now belonging to rival political parties, Rahul Gandhi's remark highlighted the long-standing personal relationship between the Gandhi family and the former Punjab Chief Minister.

Captain Amarinder had recently spoken about Rahul Gandhi

In a recent interview, Captain Amarinder Singh shared details of his personal equation with Rahul Gandhi. He said Rahul had personally wished him on his birthday this year. Captain Amarinder also revealed that after the death of his brother, Raja Randhir Singh, Rahul Gandhi reached out personally to express his condolences.

According to Captain Amarinder Singh, no senior BJP leader had contacted him with a similar message of sympathy.

Rahul Gandhi's reference to Amarinder Singh as "Uncle" is rooted in the close relationship shared by their families over several decades.

Captain Amarinder Singh and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi were classmates at The Doon School in Dehradun and remained close friends. Captain Amarinder has earlier said it was Rajiv Gandhi who encouraged him to enter active politics.

He was elected to the Lok Sabha on a Congress ticket in 1980.

Captain Amarinder Singh has remained close to the Gandhi family for decades. Rahul Gandhi has known him since childhood and has often regarded him as a senior family friend.
