Punjab: 14 farmers fined in Moga for burning stubble

In a joint operation, teams of Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) and Agriculture department on Tuesday, imposed penalties on 14 farmers found involved in the illegal practice of burning the paddy stubble in the district. Farmers, who were farming on two or less than two acres of land identified as Rambaksh Singh and Harbhajan Singh of Takhtupura, Gurdev Singh of Kokri Butra, Pritam Singh of Fatehgarh Korotana, Jeeta Singh of Rama, Sukhvinder Singh of Singhawala were issued challans of Rs 2500 each, while, Darshan Singh of Fatehgarh Korotana, Navpreet Singh of Chuharhchak, Khadku Singh, Shinder Singh and Gurcharan Singh of Rania village were asked to pay Rs 5000 each as they have farming land more than two acres. On the other side, farmers including Gurdev Singh and Gurdev Singh both from Mehro village and Darshan Singh from Rama village were fined of Rs 15000 each as they are farming on more than five acres of land. Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Hans said that apart from issuing challans, the district administration has been getting registered first information reports (FIR) under section 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against farmers for burning stubble, besides marking “Red Entry” in the Girdawari of their Agriculture land. Chief Agriculture Officer (CAO) Dr Balwinder Singh said that the satellite has been keeping a vigil eye on the stubble burning cases and no farmer will be spared if found putting match stick on the paddy residue. -PTC News
