Advocate Dhami responds to allegations made by some committee members, says 'SGPC relief work fully accounted for'
PTC Web Desk: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has strongly defended the organisation’s ongoing relief operations in flood-affected areas of Punjab, stressing that services are being carried out with full transparency.
Responding to allegations made by some SGPC members, including Jaswant Singh Purain, Advocate Dhami said the timing of such “misleading statements” was unfortunate, as this was a time to support victims, not indulge in politics.
Speaking to the media at the SGPC headquarters, he clarified that the resolution cited in the executive committee meeting referred only to verification of expenses incurred on immediate relief work. He added that details of contributions made by different gurdwaras and expenditures had already been shared publicly.
Advocate Dhami further stated that certain members were attempting to create confusion over relief material sent from Gurdwara Nanakana Sahib, Sangrur, but all aid had been delivered strictly according to rules. Citing an example, he said the SGPC had approved 3,000 litres of diesel for strengthening the Ghaggar river embankment, of which 2,000 litres were already provided. All records, including requests and distribution details, were maintained at the gurdwara concerned, he said.
“Opposing for the sake of opposition does not suit responsible members of this institution,” the SGPC chief remarked. “Instead of supporting the victims, it is unfortunate that some are questioning those who are helping.”
The SGPC chief also noted that Shiromani Akali Dal and several other organisations were carrying out independent relief work across Punjab. However, he criticised attempts to undermine the SGPC through propaganda, saying such efforts only weaken collective service initiatives.
Advocate Dhami appealed to all parties to focus on healing the wounds of those affected by the floods rather than obstructing the ongoing humanitarian work through unnecessary controversies.
