PTC Web Desk: In a major blow to cross-border drug trafficking, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of the Punjab Police, in coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF), has seized a massive consignment of heroin weighing 19.980 kg from Bhindi Aulakh village in the Ajnala area of Amritsar district.

The recovery was made during a well-coordinated operation launched on the basis of specific intelligence inputs. The ANTF, Border Range, along with BSF personnel, conducted a planned raid that led to the arrest of four accused, including the main operator allegedly responsible for managing the heroin supply chain.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the arrested accused were in direct contact with handlers based in Pakistan and were actively involved in receiving heroin consignments smuggled across the international border. Officials said the main accused was overseeing the entire logistics of delivery and distribution, while the other arrested persons facilitated local-level trafficking through a network of regional dealers.

Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said the prime accused played a central role in coordinating the supply and distribution of heroin, indicating the presence of a well-organised and structured narcotics network operating in the region. An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway.

Police officials said the focus of the ongoing probe is to identify the Pakistan-based handlers, trace supply routes and dismantle the entire drug trafficking syndicate. The Punjab Police reiterated its commitment to eradicating the drug menace and cracking down on cross-border narco-terror networks operating in the state.

The police have also appealed to the public to promptly report any suspicious activity related to drug trafficking.
