'Breach of trust': CM Bhagwant Mann flays HS Phoolka as he returns to active politics after joining BJP
PTC News Desk: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has launched a scathing attack on former Aam Aadmi Party MLA HS Phoolka for joining Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), calling the move 'breach of trust'.
Senior advocate and former Punjab MLA Harvinder Singh Phoolka joined BJP on Wednesday at party headquarters in New Delhi, marking his return to active politics after ending seven year hiatus.
Reacting to the development, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said although AAP had appointed Phoolka as Leader of Opposition in 2017, he later resigned from both the position and as Dakha MLA. Mann added, “I have never seen a person who breaches trust of those who elected him, ever win again in elections. But all the best to him.”
A well-known lawyer in the Supreme Court and Delhi High Court, Phoolka has earned respect for his long legal battle seeking justice for victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. He began his political journey in 2014 with the AAP, contesting the Lok Sabha Elections from Ludhiana. Later, he won the Dakha seat in the 2017 Punjab Assembly elections and also served briefly as the Leader of Opposition.
However, Phoolka stepped away from active politics in 2017 to focus on his legal work. He resigned as an MLA in 2018 and officially left the AAP in early 2019, choosing to dedicate his time fully to legal causes.
