Carpenter from Punjab's Jalandhar wins Rs 50 lakh on Kaun Banega Crorepati; answered question without lifeline

PTC Web Desk: Sony TV’s popular quiz show 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' witnessed a remarkable moment on its September 18 episode when Chhinderpal, a resident of Hussainpur village in Lambra town of Jalandhar, Punjab, created history. A carpenter by profession, Chhinderpal overcame a lifetime of struggles and, with sheer determination, knowledge, and confidence, not only made it to the hot seat but also walked away with Rs 50 lakh, bringing pride to his family and village.

Chhinderpal’s life has been filled with challenges. While working as a carpenter, he shouldered his family’s responsibilities through difficult times. Yet, he always nurtured a big dream. Passionate about reading, learning, and general knowledge, he proved on the KBC stage that no dream is too big if pursued with hard work and perseverance.

From the start of the episode, Chhinderpal played brilliantly, answering one question after another with confidence and using very few lifelines. His resilience and determination impressed host Amitabh Bachchan, who remarked during the show: “Your way of thinking will always remain in our hearts.”

The episode began with a question worth Rs 7.5 lakh, which Chhinderpal answered correctly. He then cleared the Rs 12.5 lakh and Rs 25 lakh milestones, using two lifelines for the latter but ultimately trusting his instincts.

The most thrilling moment came when he answered the Rs 50 lakh question without using any lifeline, leaving the audience and Big B astonished. The studio erupted in applause as he crossed the milestone.

The Rs 1 crore question was: “Before becoming Surveyor General of India, which island did George Everest survey between 1814 and 1816?” The options were Jeju, Jamaica, Jersey, and Java.

Despite deliberating for a long time, Chhinderpal was uncertain of the correct answer. Following Amitabh Bachchan’s advice, he chose to quit the game and secured Rs 50 lakh. For formality, he guessed Jamaica, which turned out to be incorrect. The right answer was Java.

News of his victory spread quickly in his village, sparking celebrations and pride among the locals. Villagers praised him for proving that ordinary people can achieve extraordinary goals through dedication and hard work.

During the show, Chhinderpal expressed that he still has many unfulfilled dreams, which he hopes to realise with the prize money. He also made a heartfelt promise: “No matter how much I struggle, I will ensure my children get an education.” His victory stands not just as a personal achievement but as an inspiration for the entire Punjab.
