CBI issues notice to IPS Kuldeep Chahal to join investigation

Chandigarh, February 11: As per the sources, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday issued notice to IPS Kuldeep Singh Chahal to join the investigation in the case of corruption and misconduct. 

Kuldeep Singh Chahal has been alleged of corruption and misconduct while his tenure as SSP in Chandigarh.

As per the information, the action has been taken against Kuldeep Singh Chahal as per the orders of Governor Banwari Lal Purohit. 

Notably, Kuldeep Chahal was appointed from 2009-batch IPS officer of Punjab cadre and then took over as Chandigarh SSP and was on deputation on September 29, 2020 and was on three year tenure. Kuldeep Singh was sent back to his parent cadre in last year December 12, just 10 months before the completion of his tenure. This was done on the directions of Governor Banwari Lal Prohit. 

Meanwhile, in a letter to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on last December 14, Governor Purohit said that, “When serious inputs started coming about the misconduct of UT SSP Chahal, I ascertained their authenticity from reliable sources, after which, I communicated telephonically with the chief secretary, Punjab, on November 28, 2022, my decision to remove UT SSP Chahal from the critical post. At the same time, I advised him to send a panel of efficient IPS officers for the post of SSP, UT.”

But, however recently amidst the controversy over Kuldeep Chahal being sent back turns murkier with the involvement of CM and Governor in a “war of letters,” sources in the Punjab government said.
