CBI raids Vigilance: Who is arrested BJP leader linked to Punjab Vigilance Bureau office searches ?

CBI raids Vigilance: In a significant crackdown on corruption, the CBI conducted raids at Punjab Vigilance Bureau office in Mohali late Monday night, exposing a major misconduct. The CBI also arrested reader of Vigilance Chief Sharad Satya Chauhan OP Rana and middlemen Raghav Goyal and his father Vikas Goyal, who have been accused of “facilitating a ₹20-lakh deal along with the VB chief’s reader to settle a case”.

The raids were also conducted at Goyals' residence in Malout. The CBI team seized some documents and Rs 5 lakh in cash from the premises, sources said.

Notably Raghav Goyal is a prominent BJP leader based in Malout and is said to be a close associate of Punjab Vigilance chief Sharad Satya Chauhan.

According to the reports, the CBI conducted a raid at a five-star hotel in Chandigarh, where OP Rana, the reader of a senior Vigilance officer, and middlemen Raghav Goyal along with his father Vikas Goyal were allegedly negotiating a deal with a complainant.

It is being reported that the action was taken by the CBI in connection with an alleged bribery case linked to the Punjab Vigilance Bureau. The federal probe agency had reportedly been receiving information about this deal for a long time, following which the CBI laid a trap and conducted the operation.

This is first time in the history of Punjab that a state investigating agency itself is being raided by central agency due to corruption charges.

An FIR has been registered against reader OP Rana and Raghav Goyal under the Prevention of Corruption Act (PC Act), according to the CBI officials.
