Delhi blast : CCTV image of suspect driving i20 car that caused blast near Red Fort emerges
PTC News Desk: A CCTV image has surfaced showing the suspect driving the Hyundai i20 that exploded near Delhi’s Red Fort on Monday night, killing eight people and injuring several others. The man in the image is believed to be Dr. Mohammad Umar, a suspected terrorist linked to the Faridabad terror module who is currently on the run.
According to sources, Umar was inside the car and allegedly planned the attack with two associates. The explosion was reportedly carried out in haste after police made arrests in Faridabad earlier the same day. Investigators said Umar and his accomplices had planted a detonator in the car before triggering the powerful blast.
Officials have confirmed that Ammonium Nitrate Fuel Oil (ANFO) was used in the explosion, which occurred during peak evening hours near the crowded Red Fort area, a popular tourist destination. The CCTV footage shows the car entering the parking area near Sunehri Masjid at 3:19 pm and leaving at 6:48 pm, with the explosion taking place minutes later at 6:52 pm.
Police are now tracing the car’s route toward Daryaganj and reviewing more than 100 CCTV recordings, including footage from nearby toll plazas, to reconstruct its movements. The vehicle was last seen entering Delhi from the Badarpur border, while the rest of its journey is still being investigated.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police are questioning at least 13 suspects in connection with the blast.
