Chandigarh administration razes illegal structures at Elante Mall
PTC News Desk: The Chandigarh administration on Sunday carried out demolition drive and sealing of illegal structures inside Nexus Elante Mall. The action is first such against one of the largest commercial centres in the tricity.
The action was initiated after the mall authorities allegedly failed to meet the two-month deadline to remove unauthorised structural changes made without obtaining mandatory building plan approval.
Officials said that the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) had served a detailed show-cause notice to the mall on September 3, following an inspection conducted on August 8.
During the inspection, officials discovered major structural modifications and unapproved commercial activities being carried out without the consent of the UT chief administrator.
“The site inspection conducted on August 8 revealed that you have altered the building without prior permission from the chief administrator. A total of 10 violations were identified,” the notice read.
The notice instructed the allottee, lessee, and occupier to rectify all violations within two months and warned that they would be charged ₹8 per square foot per day for the area found in violation.
