PTC News Desk: In a significant development, the Faridkot police has issued an arrest warrant against Canada-based NRI Jagmandeep Singh, also known as Jagman Samra, a resident of Phaguwala village in Sangrur in connection with the fake video of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
Samra, a Canada-based NRI drew attention after he circulated a purported AI video of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on social media.
The warrant pertains to an earlier case involving Samra’s escape from judicial custody. He was initially arrested by Ferozepur Police in connection with a cheating case registered on November 28, 2020, at the Talwandi Bhai Police Station and was being held as an undertrial in Faridkot Central Jail.
While in custody, Samra was admitted to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital in Faridkot for medical treatment on December 23, 2021. However, on February 1, 2022, he managed to flee from the hospital by misleading the jail personnel assigned to guard him.
Following his escape, the jail authorities filed a complaint, leading to the registration of a case against Samra and the negligent jail staff at Faridkot City Police Station. After absconding, Samra is believed to have fled to Canada.
He has once again come under police scrutiny after allegedly sharing a doctored video of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on social media, prompting the Punjab Police’s Cyber Crime Wing in Mohali to file a new case against him.
