Doda road accident: Retired Punjab soldier’s only son among martyrs, wedding due on March 1
PTC Web Desk: In a tragic incident in Doda district, Jammu and Kashmir, 10 Indian Army personnel lost their lives when a military vehicle went out of control and plunged approximately 200 feet into a deep gorge while travelling from Bhaderwah to Khanai Top. Several other soldiers sustained serious injuries in the accident. Among the martyrs is 23-year-old Jobanpreet Singh, a resident of Chnauli village, Nurpur Bedi, Punjab, and the only son of retired soldier Balveer Singh. Jobanpreet had joined the Indian Army in September 2019 and was serving with 8 Cavalry, Armored Unit (4 RR). His marriage was scheduled for March 1, and the family had already completed all wedding preparations.
The heartbreaking news has sent shockwaves through the village, and surrounding areas.
Speaking to the media, Balveer Singh expressed his grief, revealing that he last spoke with his son two days before the accident. Jobanpreet had mentioned he was going on a 72-hour operation and would call after returning. The father questioned why the transfer, which was apparently planned, had been delayed for six months and appealed to authorities for a thorough investigation to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
“My only son sacrificed his life for the nation. I have lost everything,” Balveer Singh said, urging that no other family should suffer the pain his family is enduring. The sacrifice of Jobanpreet Singh and his comrades has left the entire region in mourning, with locals paying tribute to their fallen heroes.
