DSP Yogesh Kumar Sharma dies of accidental gunshot injury at Kapurthala police quarters
Kapurthala news: Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Yogesh Kumar Sharma, who was serving with the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), died after sustaining a gunshot injury at his official residence in the police quarters on Tuesday morning. It is learnt that he was cleaning his gun when it went off.
According to information, the incident occurred around 7.30 am while the DSP was at home with his family, including his wife, parents, son and daughter. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Jalandhar, where doctors declared him brought dead.
It is learnt that DSP Yogesh Kumar had been transferred just three days ago from the ANTF to the Bureau of Investigation (BOI) in Chandigarh.
Family members said the firearm may have gone off while the officer was cleaning his weapon.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Madhavi Sharma, who reached the spot soon after the incident, said it seemed to be the case of an accidental fire.
The body has been sent to the Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
