Farmers announce rail blockade across Punjab on December 5 over pending demands
PTC Web Desk: The Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) has announced a statewide railway blockade in Punjab on December 5. Confirming the decision, KMM coordinator Sarwan Singh Pandher said train services would be halted at 26 locations across the state.
The protest will take place from 1 pm to 3 pm, lasting two hours. Pandher clarified that no road blockades would be carried out during the demonstration. He said the central and Punjab governments had failed to take action on several key farmer issues, including the demand for a legal guarantee on Minimum Support Price (MSP).
The agitation is expected to disrupt train operations in several major districts such as Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala and Bathinda, along with other areas affected by the rail network.

Pandher said the farmers were demanding a statutory MSP guarantee from the Centre. Additionally, they want the Electricity Amendment Bill 2025 withdrawn. The KMM has also opposed the installation of prepaid electricity metres, calling for traditional metres to be restored.
He further alleged that the Punjab Government was “forcibly selling public assets” and ignoring the rights of farmers and labourers, prompting the need for intensified protests.
Pandher cautioned that if the government continued to overlook these demands, the movement could expand further. He said the rail blockade aimed to ensure that the voices of farmers and workers reached the authorities.
