Four held in SAD councillor's murder case after brief exchange of fire in Amritsar
PTC News Desk: In a significant development, the Punjab police has arrested 4 accused involved in the murder of Shiromani Akali Dal councilor Harjinder Singh's murder. The accused were held in Amritsar after a brief exchange of fire.
DGP Punjab police Gaurav Yadav took to his social media and confirmed the arrest of four accused.
"In a major breakthrough, Amritsar Commissionerate Police dismantles an organized crime network linked to the foreign-based Kishan Gang. Within 8 hours, four gang operatives were arrested, leading to the swift resolution of the Murder Case of Harjinder Singh @ Bahman (Municipal Councillor, Jandiala Guru)," DGP said in a post.
During the chase, one accused identified as Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi opened fire on the police. In defence SHO Chheharta retaliated injuring him in right leg. He was immediately rushed to the civil hospital and is currently undergoing treatment.
"During a chase near Fatahpur, accused Gurpreet Singh @ Gopi opened fire on the police party. In self-defence, SHO Chheharta retaliated with his service weapon, injuring Gopi in the right leg. The accused was immediately shifted to Civil Hospital, Amritsar for medical care and is currently under treatment," he further added.

The police officials have recovered One Glock 9mm pistol from the possession of accused.
"This operation marks a crucial step in the ongoing crackdown on inter-gang rivalry and organized crime. Investigations are underway to identify additional associates and map backward and forward linkages of the gang," DGP said.
Earlier on Sunday, Shiromani Akali Dal's sitting councillor from Jandiala Guru Harjinder Singh was shot dead by bike-borne assailants over long-standing enmity.
